Chris Pace

Hometown: Edneyville, NC

Occupation: Mill Manager and Metallurgical Engineer at Simplot’s phosphate mine outside of Afton, WY.

Ride:  Ridley Damocles ISP,  Niner Hardtails – SS and Geared

Years biking: 15

Favorite food: Pulled-pork bar-b-que!  Hey, I’m from NC!

What is your favorite race/ride?   Night mountain bike rides at Norris Watershed (Tenn.) with my old crew of riding buddies from Knox-Vegas.  ‘Round here, I’m usually riding from Freedom, WY to Wayan, ID or China Hat.  I love the ride up the canyon to Hoback and Jackson, too.

What are you proudest of having done on your bike?  Dropping the local would-be hero mountain biker on the first, insanely steep, climb of a twelve-hour mountain bike race by attacking in the big chain ring, three down in the back and proving a lot of folks in Knoxville wrong.  On the road, countless miles on the front drilling it to set up teammates for attacks or sprints.

Proudest of in your life?  Holding both of my boys moments after birth.  Perspective!

What’s been your worst day on a bike?  Getting hit with various objects while on training rides (none in WY so far!).  Anytime I bonk and watch the pack just pull away.

What do you do when not biking?  Work, mostly.  And chase a six year old and a two year old.  Maybe a little skiing, camping, and fly-fishing, too.

How did you end up in Star Valley, WY?  Took a job with JR Simplot at their mine outside of Afton, WY.
